The other night, I went to my friends’ house for dinner and some cherry pickin’. We walked down the dirt road to the cherry trees and began to fill our buckets, reaching as high as we could, and pulling each branch closer to us to be plucked. Leaving all our things under the first batch of trees,we decided to cross the street and start in on the cherries there. After a couple of minutes, I heard a branch snap behind me, turned around, and I’ll be darned if it wasn’t a large black bear behind us! He just plopped himself down next to our stuff and started eating the fallen cherries. Scratching his ear, and most certainly happy, he decided to stay there. After about 10 minutes of us staring at him, he decided to make a few small irritated lunges at us. Taking that as our cue to move we more than happy to leave him alone. He climbed the cherry tree and stayed there all night. Needless to say, we collected our things the next day when he left.
This brings us to the cherries, the luscious dark red cherries. So sweet and yummy, I almost couldn’t stop eating them as fast as I was picking them! What a wonderful summer treat.
I’ll have a recipe to follow shortly.
